Bonobo and Sun Ra Arkestra nominated for GRAMMY Awards 2022

The Carvery Studio are excited to announce two GRAMMY nominations for Bonobo's killer single 'Heartbreak' and Sun Ra's milestone album 'Swirling'

The Carvery Studio is proud to shout about the Grammy nominations of two recent projects to have received the Frank Merritt treatment. Bonobo alongside fellow producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs has been nominated for their dance-floor driven 12” ‘Heartbreak’ released in November 2020 via Simon Green’s (aka Bonobo) imprint OUTLIER formed in partnership with Ninja Tune. Heartbreak’s nomination for the category of Best Dance/Electronic Recording makes Brighton-born Green a 5-time Grammy nominee. The killer single is a breakbeat driven ode to NYC’s disco revolution of the ‘70s and ‘80s sampling Christine Wiltshire’s iconic vocal line, later stem mixed and mastered by Frank. Both the 12″ vinyl and the digital release are available to buy here

Joining Bonobo in the line up of nominees for the 64th GRAMMY Award ceremony was Sun Ra Arkestra for their album ‘Swirling’. Their first recording in over two decades, ‘Swirling’ marks 60 years of unique musical contribution from cosmic jazz group Sun Ra Arkestra. ‘Swirling’ released in October 2020 via Strut was cut lovingly by Frank in Studio 1 and is now up for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album category. The mighty Sun Ra under the direction of maestro Marshall Allen at the remarkable age of 97, continue to transcend genre and generation, time and space. To celebrate, Strut has released a limited edition 12” single featuring two songs from the album’s recording session and a limited edition of ‘Swirling’ pressed on orange vinyl. Each copy is hand stamped and presented in a silkscreen sleeve featuring artwork adapted from the album by illustrator and Carvery family member Lewis Heriz. Available to order here.
