Bonobo announces new album ‘Fragments’

The new masterpiece from Simon Green is due out on 14th January 2022 via Ninja Tune

We are excited to hear that Ninja Tune has announced the new album ‘Fragments’ by long-standing Carvery friend and family member; Bonobo. The lead single, ‘Rosewood’ is available now and sets the tone for what is being heralded as Bonobo aka Simon Green’s greatest masterpiece thus far. Mastered and cut with a lot of love in The Carvery Studio, the double LP will be available from 14th January 2022 shortly followed by a world tour. As a result of the global shutdown, Si was forced to stand still for the first time in his two-decade-long musical trajectory, during which time he produced this highly emotionally charged album. The 12 tracks were developed from fragments of ideas and experimentation with modular synthesis, recordings he had made of harpist Lara Somogyi, his work with arranger and string player Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, his own playing of the Fender Rhodes, and more. The creations were propelled forward by collaborations with Jamila Woods, Joji, Kadhja Bonet, Jordan Rakei, and O’Flynn as well as Si’s own personal exploration of the natural environments he found himself in over the last 18 months.

Featuring some of Bonobo’s hardest grooves yet, ‘Fragments’ pays homage to UK bass and rave music through its beats. The perfectly placed melodies are introspective and melancholic yet not without a burning sense of hope, making it a true sonic affirmation of the times. It’s about the dance floor in many ways, Si reflects, “I remembered all over again how much I loved crowds and movement, and people connecting with each other”.

‘Fragments’ is available to preorder as a double LP (crystal clear, red marbled, or black 140g vinyl), CD, and digital here. To accompany the album announcement, dates were released for Bonobo’s 2022 world tour, check them out here.
